Our Company History...
In the Company of Dancers (ITCOD) was founded in 1987 by Lisa Hooks-Murray to bring modern dance to as many people as possible, both through educational outreaches and major productions. In 1998 Garland Goodwin Wilson was announced Artistic Director of the Company. ITCOD went through a merger with Wilson's collaborative company, Of Moving Colors Productions (OMC). OMC believes that bringing the arts together represents a critical element to the culture of any city. Each year OMC brings together dance, theatre, live music, and the visual arts through major productions and educational outreaches. OMC also brings in top-flight guest artists for Master Classes, choreography and special programs for neighborhoods and schools.
Our "flagship" Color Productions have included Yellow, Orchid, Blue; Red (for Baton Rouge); Lilac, Magenta...Tales of Love; White; Paradise Orange (in collaboration with the Greater BR Food Bank); Sienna (in conjunction with Earth Day); Peacock Blue; Gifts of Red and Green, Citrus Demise, Alloy, and Luminescence. Additional major productions include Louped (sponsored by the Lamar Families Fund), Dance: Baton Rouge - Philadelphia, our holiday season production, Green, Vertical Voyage (a collaboration with the Baton Rouge Symphony); Playin' Around, and Altitude.
Our educational outreach program "C.L.O.S.E.R. to the Arts!" is committed to taking the arts out into the community through workshops, small performances and classes for children and adults. See our attached comprehensive list of venues for more information on where this outreach program has taken us.
Performers range from ages 21 to 38. The number of artists and technicians contracted ranges from 40 to 80 annually.
